Corteva Agriscience has issued a supplemental label for Trellis SC (isoxaben) herbicide use in newly planted and bearing caneberries.  Trellis already has approved uses for weed control in blueberry, grape, and a few other fruit crops.

Trellis SC provides preemergence broadleaf weed control for a number of common species.  Susceptible weeds include common lambsquarters, pigweed species, Pennsylvania smartweed, common ragweed, sowthistle, prostrate knotweed, prickly lettuce, horseweed, ivyleaf morningglory, spotted spurge, prickly sida, nightshade, common chickweed, Carolina geranium, and henbit.  Grass species are not controlled by Trellis SC.  Surflan (oryzalin) is an excellent PRE herbicide to tank mix with Trellis SC for residual control of both broadleaf and grass weeds.

The expanded use offers growers the flexibility to use Trellis SC in newly planted as well as established caneberry plantings. Applications of Trellis SC in newly planted caneberry can only be done once soil has settled around the plants by “packing and irrigation or rainfall and no cracks are present or plant injury may occur”.

Rainfall or overhead irrigation of at least 0.5” is required with 21 days of application for herbicide activation.  Trellis SC may applied at rates of 16 to 31 fl. oz. per acre.  The label allows for two applications per crop year so long as the total amount applied does not exceed 31 fl. oz per acre per year.  Trellis SC has a 60 day PHI for caneberry.
